These Day in the Life sessions are magical. They are the mundane. Your regular routines. Reading the same book over and over. Riding bikes and playing at your local park. Snuggling. Playing. Getting ready for nap. The same things you do every single day…yet they are magical. They are the tiny things that you don’t see while you’re in it. The way your kiddo looks at you. The way you hold him. You, in your every day life, are so beautiful.

Thank you, Rachel, for trusting me to document you family just as you are right now. I am honored. And you are beautiful.

It isn’t every day that you’re asked to document a tea party for four generations of women. I was honored and excited to attend. Especially because this is a tradition for this particular group of ladies, shared from great-grandmother to grandmother to mother to daughters.

I don’t typically show an entire session in black and white…and this home was full of really beautiful color. But these women and their relationships and interactions were even more stunningly beautiful, and showing them in black and white only makes that even more obvious. (Don’t worry, Anne. There’s color in your full gallery! :)) I hope you love this session as much as I did.

Stories in Seven is a blog circle made up of documentary family photographers who have committed to telling a story in 7 images on the 7th of each month. This is the story of the big bath!

My first Stories in Seven (January) post was a sink bath story…so I thought it only fitting to do a bath story for the last one of the year as well. To show how much he’s grown. To remind myself how much has changed. So that later I can look back and think how small he looks in this story (even though, right now, it feels like he’s so big!!)

Stories in Seven is a blog circle made up of documentary family photographers who have committed to telling a story in 7 images on the 7th of each month. This is the story of just a walk. Bennett LOVES being outside. And he’s at a really fun age where every little thing is completely captivating: pulling the petals off a flower, the colors of the leaves, the way the gravel scatters when you rake it with a stick, and playgrounds too, of course. It’s such a good reminder for me to slow down and take it all in. And there’s nothing more fun and satisfying than watching Bennett thoroughly enjoying himself at his own pace in the great outdoors. So this is the story of just a walk…but so much more.

Choosing to document a day in your life is a love letter to your child in the future. By capturing how you interact, look at her, snuggle her and be silly with her, you’re telling her exactly how you feel about her right in this very moment. Aleks and Julio, thank you for trusting me to help you write that letter to Elie. Here is a an afternoon in your life.

Oana - What a great session! Sometimes I think we get so boggled down with pretty styled sessions that we forget to capture the raw beauty of a regular everyday. This was a great reminder, thanks for sharing. I love it!ReplyCancel
