Hannah Nielsen » Documentary Family Photographer Seattle Portland and Worldwide

Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of teaching my very first one on one mentoring session to Texas-based photographer, Krystal. We mostly talked about documentary photography (and shot a Day in the Life session that I’ll share later), but we also chatted a bit about lifestyle. I was so excited when this sweet family said they were available to be our models! Thanks again, Janet, Matt, Caleb and Helen! So much fun!!!

Stories in Seven is a blog circle made up of documentary family photographers who have committed to telling a story in 7 images on the 7th of each month. This is the story of a sunny day on the swings.

Bennett LOVES to swing. He’s been so insanely busy the past few weeks that the only chances I get to get seven images of him doing one thing, are the times that he’s pinned down…in the high chair, bath tub, car seat, stroller…or the swing! I will always remember letting him swing extra long just to get a tiny break from the chasing. He is so fast!! And then there are those smiles…for those I could swing him all day long.

Tiffany Roberts - I can’t get enough of Bennett! It has been such a joy watching him grow these last six months. I feel like I know him through the stories you tell. The first image is my favorite: such pretty light, cool perspective, and his little smiley face peaking through the swing…Gah, so good! They are all great. You really do document his moments so beautifully!ReplyCancel

The day we met for this session was exactly 2 years after Grayson’s adoption was made official (“Gotcha Day”)! What a special day for a family photo shoot. The morning clouds burned off and the sun came out. It warmed right up and it was a beautiful (though very very busy!) day at Golden Gardens. A true Seattle summer day (even though it’s only the middle of May). Everything worked out perfectly! It was a pleasure to spend the evening with Teri, Paul, and the ever busy, Grayson! Thanks for coming out to play, sweet family!

Oh…and I must mention…THOSE CURLS! Love.

Stories in Seven is a blog circle made up of documentary family photographers who have committed to telling a story in 7 images on the 7th of each month. This is the story of his first sidewalk chalk.

These images will help me remember…how long he squatted before finally sitting down, relaxed. How happy the small pleasure of drawing on the sidewalk made him. How little he actually drew. How many times he tried to eat the chalk. My little boy. In the spring time.

But my four year old loves using it on the walkway outside….So I leave that activity for her dad…but I do enjoy seeing the artwork/aftermath. I’m sure she is as cute as this little guy when she’s doing it!ReplyCancel

You might recognize Sara and Kalina from their Day in the Life session a few months ago. I was super excited when they booked a mini session, more excited when I saw what our weather was going to look like, and even more excited when I found out we were doing mother daughter shots! Golden Gardens is one of my favorite places to shoot. This one just came together perfectly! Thank you for trusting me to document these priceless times in your life, Sara!
